They turned back to the girl, who was only getting more confused.
"My girl," said the keeper. "This mirror, as you called it is actually an inter-dimensional ship. It, as well as myself, are from the planet Hymalflaxa. It is bigger on the inside, as you no doubt perceived, and has the power to travel into, out of, and between books. Young Rory himself was from a book called… um, oh what was it?"
"Blood of Olympus." Rory supplied. "He plucked me out in the middle of a war. "
The Keeper smiled serenely. "Yes, that's right." He turned back to Madison. " the last thing I have to tell you for now is that there is a pair of Illitarites on your trail. If they find you, they will kill you before you can plead your case or say 'hello'. And on that note, I invite you to come along with us when it is almost never safe, but where there is a higher chance of survival than the Illitarites will give you."
He extended his hand to her. Madison was torn. She wanted to live, and she had a feeling that the highest chance she would was with the crazy old coot in front of her.
But she loved the life she had. She would miss her red pencils and grade books. But in her heart of hearts what she truly longed for was the thing staring her in the face. An adventure.
She took the Keeper's hand.
